Our past
Welcome to Keg-N-Bottle, Inc.! Established in 1968 Keg-N-Bottle is the leading merchant in Madison County supplying domestic, micro and import beers, wines and spirits from Indiana and around the world. Our family business has the most extensive selection of beer, wine, spirits, accessories and cigars available. With eight locations throughout Anderson and Lapel you’re never far from a Keg-N-Bottle!
We have always prided ourselves on clean and well-staffed stores. Stop in and you’ll probably be greeted by one of your neighbors. Focusing on responsibility and community mindedness, we offer the best locations to plan your next event. Whether you are shopping for a dinner party of eight, a fourth of July party for 50, or a wedding reception for 500 we are your one stop shop.
In 1954 John Janes and his wife, Doris opened a grocery store in Anderson, The California Food Market. Their children pitched in to help after school and on weekends—all worked hard for the American dream. In 1957 John saw the growth in beer sales and opened Southside Package Store next to the food market at 29th and Brown Streets. With the help of his son, Jay Janes and his son-in-law James Hackleman, John opened the first Keg-n-Bottle at 2206 East 6th Street---it still proves to be one of our most popular locations. Over the next 40 years they expanded the business to seven stores in Anderson and one in Lapel.
In 1992 I joined the team, working nights at Keg-n-Bottle while attending Ball State University. Yes, the business has changed in the last forty years, but I am often taken back to the basic principles of my grandfather, John—hard work, a focus on community involvement, and an attention to detail.
